IT'S SPRING - TIME TO BRIGHTEN UP THE HOUSE INTERIOR

Three Tips to Add Colour

The cold winter is hopefully a thing of the past which makes now the perfect time to introduce colour to the interior of the house just as the weather starts to warm and green in the trees and grass returns. After a long cold South African Highveld winter, the brown veld is thirsting for summer rains for vibrant colours to re-emerge.

  1. Use Colour in Moderation

At the end of winter there is nothing more invigorating than bright and uplifting colours. However colour should be used in moderation as it is easy for it to go from having a warming effect to creating a feeling of danger and caution. Think specifically of red which is often associated with warnings but when used in moderation, can bring warmth and comfort to a room.

  1. Ways to Introduce Colour

It is simple to introduce colour into a room, remembering that it does not need to be a permanent feature but rather a temporary fun item that brings uniqueness to a room or area.

A vase or ornament, loose carpet, scatter cushions or wall hanging can be great additions by helping to add just enough colour to generate the desired result. For the adventurous, create a feature wall by painting it a colour that brings warmth. Plants are also a good way to bring comfort to a room. Consider using plants that are easy to maintain like the Peace Lily and Ficus.

  1. Understand Colour

Different colours denote and create different emotions and feelings. Be daring and introduce colour but remember to research which colours generate which emotions and then take the leap.

Colour is a great way to uplift and spruce up the interior of a room and the house in general.
