General
The course is expertly maintained and manicured by a team of professional groundskeepers headed up by Brendon van Nieuwenhuizen, a Class AA PGA Professional. Golfers have access to a modern Pro Shop stocking not only the latest golf apparel and equipment but with staff that are consistently providing friendly and helpful service.
Over and above the golf course, other golfing facilities include a driving range, putting green and chipping facility including a convenient Halfway House where amazing service is the order of the day. The water hazards that add to the beauty of this course can be challenging and intimidating for the rookie golfer, so the best advice is to bring extra golf balls.
History
The official opening of the Silver Lakes Golf Club and Clubhouse took place on 10 July 1993. Clem Sunter, the then CEO and Chairman of Anglo American Corporation presided over the event. In fact the first sanctioned golf game was played prior to this on 21 April 1993 to establish the course rating for the first score card. Ernie Els was one of the golfers that played on this day. Over the years Silver Lakes Golf Course has hosted many important personalities and celebrities from golfing greats, to politicians as well as sporting icons and legends.
Membership
The Club has an engaged and energetic men's and women's golfing section as well as a strong junior division. With several golfing membership options and categories available, joining this tribe of golfing enthusiasts is a worthwhile investment.
